Deleting your data

PlainQuill deletes data when asked, when a connected network is removed, and on a fixed schedule. This page says how to ask, what is deleted, and when.

How to ask

Write to hello@plainquill.com from the email address on the account, or from any address if there is no account, and say what should be deleted. An account is not needed to ask. Requests are answered within 30 days. The same address is behind the support email link in the dashboard.

Removing a connected network

Disconnecting a social network from Channels in the dashboard deletes, at that moment, that network’s inbox (the comments, reviews and messages, and the record of each) and the credentials PlainQuill stores for the connection. Where other networks are still connected through the same posting provider, the provider keeps its link to the account until the last of them is removed. Replies sent from the inbox are kept as set out below.

Removing access in the network’s own settings stops access from that side. Anything already stored is then deleted on the schedule below, or straight away on request.

What is deleted

  • Closing an account. The account, the business details, content, drafts, sources, approval records, connected channels and their credentials are deleted within 30 days. Records the law requires to be kept, such as invoices and payment records, are kept for as long as it requires.
  • Disconnecting a network. That network’s inbox and the credentials stored for it are deleted at once, as described above.
  • If you are not a customer. If you commented on, reviewed or sent a message to a business that uses PlainQuill, its inbox may hold a copy of what you wrote, your public name or handle on that network, and when. That copy is deleted on the schedule below without anyone asking. To have it deleted sooner, write to the address above with a link to what you wrote or the name of the business.
  • Deleted on the network. When a post is removed from the network within 30 days of being published, the stored comments on it are deleted once the inbox’s next check finds it gone. On X, a recent mention its author deleted is deleted here once the next check finds it gone. Posts older than that are no longer checked, and their comments are deleted on the schedule below.

What is deleted without anyone asking

The inbox keeps other people’s words for a limited time, set per network: by the network’s own rules where they set a limit, and by PlainQuill policy where they do not. For LinkedIn and Google Business Profile, the whole record is deleted at the limit. For the other networks, once the text is deleted, a record that the message existed, and when, is kept without the text or the writer’s name, so counts and dates stay right.

  • LinkedIn. Comments: text deleted after 48 hours, the writer’s name after 24 hours. Set by LinkedIn’s own rules.
  • Google Business Profile. Reviews: text and the writer’s name deleted after 30 days. Set by Google Business Profile’s own rules.
  • X. Mentions: text and the writer’s name deleted after 30 days. Set by PlainQuill policy. Deletions on X are followed.
  • Facebook. Comments: text and the writer’s name deleted after 90 days. Set by PlainQuill policy.
  • Instagram. Comments and messages: text and the writer’s name deleted after 90 days. Set by PlainQuill policy.
  • Threads. Replies: text and the writer’s name deleted after 90 days. Set by PlainQuill policy.

No comments or messages are read or stored from Bluesky, Discord, Mastodon, Pinterest, Reddit and Telegram.

Replies sent through the inbox on a customer’s behalf are kept for 400 days, as a record of what was said.

The privacy policy describes everything else that is collected, and how long it is kept.

Effective 30 September 2026.

Get started

Run it on your own site

Checkout takes your first month, or your first year on annual billing, and the plan starts, on your own site and your own topics. You approve every piece before it goes live, and you can cancel any time from the dashboard. Ask within 7 days of a payment and you get all of it back while fewer than 7 articles have been generated since that payment. From 7 on, you get back the part that covers the articles not yet generated.
